Car stolen from woman while she was purchasing gas recovered, suspect arrested.

On 5-18-15, officers were sent to the Toot ‘n Totum store at 100 Tascosa Road on a robbery.  They were advised that a gray 2012 Ford Fusion had been taken from a female victim there.  Responding officers found that a WF 66 was at the fuel island when a HM took her car.  The suspect had been loitering near the pay phones prior to the incident.  The victim was putting gas into her car.  The suspect got into the woman’s car, told her he had a gun, and drove away.  Initial information is that the keys were in the car when it was stolen, and that the victim did not see a gun.  The victim was able to describe the suspect and his clothing.  Less than an hour later, officers located the vehicle on the parking lot of the Wal-Mart at 4215 Canyon Drive.  There was no one in the vehicle.  Officers entered the store and found a HM matching the physical and clothing description of the robber inside the store, pushing a shopping cart.  He had keys that included a Ford key fob in his hand.  When officers asked him what type of car he drove to the store, he said he drove a Toyota.  Officers took him into custody.  Once outside, they pressed the button on the key fob and the stolen vehicle’s lights flashed.  Officers found that the man was carrying identifying documents taken from the victim’s car, but found no weapon.   Adrian Esquivel HM 37 of Amarillo was booked into the Randall County Jail for aggravated robbery.  The victim was not injured.
