*Update* #LASD Deputy-Involved Shooting, Compton Blvd & Long Beach Blvd, Compton
Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department Homicide Bureau detectives are continuing their investigation into the circumstances surrounding a deputy-involved shooting that occurred at the intersection of Compton Blvd & Long Beach Blvd, Compton.
On Wednesday, May 13, 2015, at approximately 5:40 pm, two deputies from Compton Station were on patrol in the area of North Long Beach Boulevard and East Compton Boulevard, Compton, when they heard several gunshots.
They drove east on East Compton Boulevard and as they entered the intersection to turn north onto North Long Beach Boulevard they encountered a suspect who was armed with a handgun, running south along the west sidewalk toward East Compton Boulevard.
The suspect in his late teens or early twenties brandished the firearm as the deputies made their turn onto North Long Beach Boulevard. The deputies stopped their vehicle and a deputy-involved shooting occurred.
It is unknown if the suspect shot at the deputies. The suspect’s handgun was recovered at the scene.
The wounded suspect was transported to a local hospital. At this time his condition is unknown.
Homicide detectives are also investigating the source of the gunshots that preceded the deputy-involved shooting.
No deputies were injured.
There is no more information available at this time.
Whenever an Officer Involved Shooting occurs involving Los Angeles County Sheriff's deputies and it results in the wounding of a suspect, multiple independent investigations immediately begin at the scene. These include separate investigations by the Office of the Los Angeles County District Attorney in addition to investigations by Sheriff's Homicide Bureau and Internal Affairs Bureau. The Office of the Inspector General is also present. Once concluded, every aspect of the shooting is reviewed by the Sheriff's Executive Force Review Committee.
