Texas Man Injured in Miami County Crash

Bunker Hill – Today at approximately 8:25 a.m., Indiana State Police officers responded to a two vehicle crash at U.S. 31 and County Road 800 South, in which a Texas man was injured.

The preliminary crash investigation by Master Trooper Vern Robinson revealed Gregory Erfurt, 53, Euless, Texas was driving a 2014 Toyota Yaris northbound on U.S. 31. For an unexplained reason, Erfurt unexpectedly stopped on U.S. 31, at County Road 800 South, for a flashing yellow caution light. The Toyota was rear-ended by a northbound 1997 Dodge Intrepid, driven by Charles Pier, 70, Amboy, IN.

Erfurt was transported to a local hospital with a non-life threatening head injury. Pier complained of knee pain and was checked by paramedics at the scene.

Erfurt was issued a citation for stopping or parking on the travel portion of the highway.

Both drivers were wearing a seat belt which Master Trooper Robinson believes helped prevent more serious injuries in the crash.

At this time, neither the use of alcohol nor narcotics is suspected as having contributed to this crash.

Robinson was assisted with the crash investigation by Trooper Wendell Beachy, Trooper Weston Shank, Trooper Todd Trottier, the Miami County Sheriffs’ Department, and the Bunker Hill Police Department.
