In February of this year, the Marietta Police Department launched the “Meet, Screen, Exchange Program”, offering police headquarters as a safe place for online buyers and sellers of goods to meet and complete their transactions in a safe environment where help is readily available. This program was developed in response to a growing trend of crimes that were committed against those looking to do business through these online portals. While the police department will not become involved in transactions, if requested, officers will screen items to ensure they are not stolen. There are no fees for the Meet.Screen.Exchange Program services and our building and parking lot are available anytime, day or night.
Through this program the Marietta Police Department has continued to find new ways to help ensure the safety of its citizens. MPD has expanded its “Meet.Screen.Exchange Program” by pairing up with SafeTrade, an organization teaming up with local law enforcement agencies around the nation to ensure that users can feel comfortable when meeting a potential buyer or seller. SafeTrade has placed the Marietta Police Department on the list of “safe stations” to meet to help ensure a safe environment for all parties involved in online transactions.
A SafeTrade banner has been placed in the front windows of the Marietta Police Department to be constant reminder of the emphasis we place on providing our station as a safe environment for everyone.
