Fayette County Jail Death Investigation
Connersville – This morning shortly after 2:00 a.m. Fayette County Jail Staff found an inmate unresponsive in his cell. Jail staff administered first aid and EMS was called to render aid, but was unsuccessful in their attempts to resuscitate. The Fayette County Coroner was summoned and pronounced the subject dead at the scene.
The inmate, Mark Conner, age 49 of Connersville, had been incarcerated since April 24th for Strangulation and Domestic Battery, both Level 6 Felonies, as well as probation violation, and had been awaiting trial.
The preliminary investigation conducted by Indiana State Police Investigators suggests that inmate Mark Conner took his own life. An autopsy to determine the exact cause of death was conducted today, and the investigation is ongoing. Any further questions should be directed to Fayette County Sheriff Joey Laughlin. Questions about the autopsy results should be directed to the Fayette County Coroner’s Office.
