Troopers Cars Struck in Three Separate Crashes Over Night

Indianapolis, IN- Three Indiana State Police cars were damaged and three troopers were transported to area hospitals over night after being involved in interstate crashes.

Last night at approximately 7:30 p.m. Trooper Evan Joyner was responding to a personal injury crash on I-465 when another vehicle changed lanes in front of him causing a rear end crash. Joyner was transported to St. Vincent for complaint of pain to his back and ankle.

Then at approximately 12:40 a.m. this morning, Trooper Walter Butt was on I-465 WB at the 2.7mm assisting at the scene of a possible intoxicated driver going the wrong way on the interstate. Trooper Butt’s car was rear ended and his vehicle was shoved into the violator’s car. Butt was transported to Methodist Hospital to be checked out.

Lastly, at approximately 1:20 a.m., Trooper Pat Etter was sitting in his police vehicle assisting the Indianapolis Metropolitan Police Department with traffic direction on I-65 at the 106.6mm when his vehicle was rear ended by a driver who failed to yield to the emergency lighting.  Etter was transported to Methodist Hospital to be checked for complaint of pain. The other driver was not injured.

Motorists are reminded to be alert for emergency vehicles responding to or working crashes on the interstate. Heavy traffic conditions and interstate speeds make it imperative that motorists pay attention to the driving conditions and situations at all times. Failure to yield to emergency vehicles can result in a traffic citation and possible driver’s license suspension.
