LOCATION: Arrow Hwy and Mariposa St., Pomona Ca.

CRIME: Vehicular Manslaughter

** The victim has been identified as 32 year-old Marissa Leigh Vasquez, a Pomona resident. Next of kin have been notified.

NARRATIVE: On May 7, 2015, at approximately 10:46 pm, Claremont Police notified the Pomona Police Department's Dispatch Center that they were at the scene of a two-vehicle accident on Arrow Hwy. and Mariposa St, in the City of Pomona.  

Pomona officers were dispatched and upon their arrival they located a 37 year-old female suffering from major injuries. The Los Angeles County Fire/Paramedics arrived on scene and the victim was pronounced deceased.

The driver of the second vehicle fled the scene on foot, but was quickly apprehended with the help of several witnesses that directed the police to his whereabouts.  

The suspect was determined to be under the influence of alcohol. He was transported to a Los Angeles hospital for treatment of minor injuries sustained in the collision. The vehicle he was driving was found to be an unreported stolen vehicle. The suspect was arrested for vehicular manslaughter and grand theft auto.

Preliminary information suggests that Claremont Police attempted a traffic stop of the suspect vehicle, which fled. Due to the high rate of speed and inclement weather, Claremont Police did not pursue. During their area search for the vehicle, Claremont Police came across the fatal accident.
