In partnership with the Orange County Transportation Authority, the City of Santa Ana and community leaders will gather at the Santa Ana Regional Transportation Center on Monday, May 11th to celebrate important project milestones for the OC Streetcar and Bike to Work Week.
The day will begin at 7:00 a.m. with a Bike to Work Week Kick-Off Rally and Blessing of the Bikes at 7:30 a.m. Following the blessing, participants are invited to a group ride to City Hall for the Grand Opening of the newly installed bike huts which provide secure and convenient bike storage (more information at: www.santa-ana.org/bikehuts).
The afternoon will mark a number milestones toward the construction of Orange County’s first modern streetcar. The OC Streetcar project, planned to travel through the cities of Santa Ana and Garden Grove, has advanced significantly in recent weeks. Plans for the streetcar project have been approved by city councils in both cities and received environmental clearances from the Federal Transit Administration. Expected to be partly funded by Measure M – the county’s half-cent sales tax for transportation improvements – the OC Streetcar project was recently accepted into the project development phase of the New Starts federal grant program, making it a candidate for future funding.
