ROBBERIES
On Tuesday, April 28th, around 3 p.m., officers were dispatched to Diamond Mine Mini Storage (4400 Horner St.) on the report of a battery. The incident was determined to be a robbery, as the suspect punched the victim in the nose, and then stole his phone. The suspect, who was known to the victim, left the scene prior to police arrival. On Tuesday, May 5th, Mark Ledesma, a 57-year-old Newark resident, was contacted and arrested.

On Wednesday, April 29th, around 3:20 p.m., Ofc. Yaeger was dispatched to the 3300 block of San Luces Way on the report of a strong-armed robbery. The victim was walking on the street when a suspect demanded his headphones. When the victim refused, the suspect grabbed the headphones off the victim’s head and ran off. The suspect was described as a black male, 14-16 years old, 5’4” and 120 lbs., with a hair style of dark brown or black and blond “twisties.”

On Wednesday, April 29th, around 8:40 p.m., Ofc. Rivas-Villegas was dispatched to the area of Skylark Dr. and Mann Ave. on the report of a just-occurred robbery. As a victim was walking from the BART station to her car, she felt a tap on the shoulder. When she turned around, she was immediately pepper sprayed in the face. A suspect grabbed her purse and ran away with another suspect. Both suspects were described as black females in their 20’s. The female who took the purse was further described as being 5’4” with a thin build.

On Friday, May 1st, around 5 p.m., Ofc. Rivas-Villegas was dispatched to the report of a robbery at Marina Foods (1791 Decoto Rd.). The victim was in front of Marina Foods when someone grabbed her purse, then ran from the scene. Two suspects were described as Hispanic males, 20-30 years old. One suspect was about 6’0” to 6’3” with a slim build, and the other suspect was about 5’8” with a medium build.

ASSAULT WITH DEADLY WEAPON
On Monday, April 27th, around 5:45 p.m., officers were dispatched to World Liquors (34596 Alvarado-Niles Rd.) on reports of an in-progress assault with a deadly weapon. During a verbal argument, the suspect retrieved a metal baseball bat from her vehicle and hit the victim in the back with it. A 37-year-old female, Union City resident, was arrested.

On Friday, May 1st, around 12:15 a.m., Ofc. Stables was dispatched to a residence on reports of an assault with a deadly weapon. The victim said he was riding his bicycle on Decoto Rd. near Alvarado-Niles Rd., when an unknown female suspect yelled at him from a vehicle, and someone threw a glass bottle at him, striking him on the arm. Officers did not locate the vehicle or suspect.

On Saturday, May 2nd, around 7:45 p.m., officers were dispatched to the 4700 block of Andrea Way for a reported stabbing. The victim was stabbed in the chest and back multiple times by a suspect, whom the victim apparently knew. The victim did not desire prosecution.

WEEK IN REVIEW

Brandishing of a Firearm:
On Friday, May 1st, around 2 p.m., officers were dispatched to reports of a hit-and-run collision. Two juvenile victims stated they were actually being followed by a suspect brandishing a firearm, and hit a parked vehicle in their attempt to flee from the suspect. A nearby subject who matched the description of the suspect was not identified by either victim, and a consensual search of his property did not yield any firearms.

BURGLARIES AND CAR THEFTS

RESIDENTIAL BURGLARIES
From Monday, April 27th through Sunday, May 3rd, there were six reported residential burglaries:
• 34700 block of Skylark Dr.: Occurred sometime in the morning hours of Tuesday, April 28th. The padlock to a storage unit was cut, and the loss included a case of cassette tapes.
• 33000 block of Marsh Hawk Rd.: Occurred on Tuesday, April 28th, between 10 a.m. and 2 p.m. The rear sliding door was opened via unknown means. The house was partially ransacked. The loss included a small safe and its contents.
• 34700 block of Clover St.: Occurred on Tuesday, April 28th, between 2 p.m. and 2:25 p.m. A rear window was removed and the house was ransacked. The loss is unknown at this time.
• 2500 block of Village Dr.: Occurred on Tuesday, April 28th, around 11 p.m. The garage door was partially open (about 10 to 12 inches), and the suspect likely crawled underneath it. A purse was stolen from the garage.
• 31100 block of Santa Maria Dr.: Occurred on Thursday, April 30th, between 8 a.m. and 11 a.m. A rear window was smashed, but there was no apparent loss.
• 2500 block of Maraschino Ct.: Occurred on Friday, May 1st, between 9:30 a.m. and 4:20 p.m. The side door to the garage was pried open. The house was ransacked, and the loss included jewelry and cash.

AUTO BURGLARIES AND VEHICLE THEFTS
From Monday, April 27th through Sunday, May 3rd, there were four reported auto burglaries. In three of the incidents, stolen items included backpacks and purses that were left in plain view.
Safety Tip: As a reminder, never leave items of value inside your vehicle!

From Monday, April 27th through Sunday, May 3rd, there were 10 reported vehicle thefts. As of the time of this report, two of the vehicles have been recovered.

This week, members of the UCPD will attend a memorial service at the Lone Tree Cemetery’s Public Safety Memorial in Hayward. The service, hosted by the Alameda County Chiefs of Police and Sheriff’s Association, will honor those Officers who have fallen in the line of duty while serving and protecting their communities.

COMMUNITY NEWS
Union City residents Joseph Stubbs, Jr. and Matthew Williams were commended at a recent City Council meeting for rendering aid to an elderly injured male last month, and watching over him until emergency personnel arrived at the scene.
