Two Arlington Police Officers are commended for their heroic actions at an apartment complex fire

Details are starting to emerge in an apartment complex fire that occurred yesterday evening around 5 pm. A Facebook follower snapped this photo of Officer K. Johnson rushing a small baby and family out of a unit filled with smoke. Officer B. Cruz also assisted with evacuations of an adult and two kids in a unit filled with heavy smoke. They went inside of multiple units to ensure everyone was getting out safely.

Both officers were actually working an unrelated disturbance call in the complex when they noticed smoke nearby and ran to investigate.

This ended up being a 3-alarm fire at an apartment building that affected 16 units. Both officers suffered smoke inhalation and were transported to an area hospital and are expected to be ok. Both officers are so humble that they didn't want any recognition at all and said they did what any officer would have done given the same set of circumstances.

The follower who sent the photo said "This is what being a Police Officer is about. She and other officers ran in and out of buildings to get people out, regardless of the smoke and having trouble breathing. She ran out of an apartment with a baby in her hands to help a mom who had two other small children. I'm so PROUD!! I took this pic before I took the baby from her so she went to the ambulance to get checked out."
