On May 5th, 2015 at approximately 5:25 PM the Rutherford County Sheriff's Office Narcotics Unit executed a search warrant of a 30 x 30 metal building located at 171 Lazy Acres Lane in Lake Lure.
When Deputies arrived two white males ran inside the metal building locking the door behind them. Deputies then executed the search warrant having to make entry into the building. The two suspects were taken into custody as deputies noticed approximately 1000 marijuana plants.
The two white males were identified as Eric Wade Maxwell, 47 Years of age, from Vilas, NC and Jason Chris Wilkins, 41 Years of age, from Sugar Grove, NC. Both cities are located in Watauga County.
Both suspects are waiting to be charged at the Rutherford County Detention Center. Both will be charged with multiple felonies. The exact count of the plants is unknown at this time as the scene is being processed by the Rutherford County Sheriff's Office with the assistance of the State Bureau of Investigation.
So far during the investigation Deputies have seized $1883 in US Currency.
