West Covina Police Department Identifies Murder Suspect

On 4/29/15, officers responded to a shots fired call to the rear of 540 S. Sandy Hook. Patrol located a deceased male (identified as Jabarri Butts, 36 years old) near the dumpster south of 501 S. Vincent. Detectives responded and assisted with the investigation.
Shortly after, Covina PD reported they had a shooting in their city, with a named suspect. The suspect, Manuel Lujan who is a local street gang member and parolee had been identified firing several rounds through his ex-girlfriend’s window. Lujan fled the area and his vehicle was later located parked at a hotel in Covina.
After subsequent investigation, it was determined Lujan was the suspect in the West Covina homicide. WCPD Detectives made contact with Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department, City of Industry Station, who advised Lujan was the suspect in a robbery and an assault with a deadly weapon in the City of La Puente on 04-26-15. After a collaborative effort by all three agencies, Lujan was located on 4/30/15 in the city of Gardena and arrested without incident.
On 5/4/15, the Los Angeles County District Attorney’s Office filed six counts on Lujan, to include murder, attempted murder, assault with a deadly weapon, robbery, shooting at an inhabited dwelling and brandishing a firearm.
