A mock two-day terrorism training will take place tomorrow morning at 9 am WX FrontRunner Station

WOODS CROSS — A mock two-day terrorism attack involving a bombing aboard a Utah Transit Authority FrontRunner train will be held both Sunday and Monday morning beginning at 9 a.m.

The two-day exercise involving Davis and some Weber County emergency personnel will start Sunday at the FrontRunner Woods Cross Station platform at 750 S. 800 West, and continue into Monday at the Davis County Administration Building at 61 S. Main in Farmington.

UTA teams will be working with medical professionals, police, fire and other emergency responders during the two day event being dubbed “Woods Double Cross,” said Remi Barron, UTA spokesman.

The exercise is designed as a learning environment for emergency response personnel to test plans, policies and procedures as they pertain to explosions on a commuter rail line during high occupancy, Barron said.

The location of the exercise on Sunday will be contained to the FrontRunner Woods Cross Station platform, while Monday’s activities will be involve the establishing of a administrative command post and care center for the injured.

FrontRunner trains do not operate on Sundays unless otherwise noticed.

Emergency personnel from UTA, Davis County Sheriff’s Office, Davis County Health Department, Davis County Medical Reserve Corps, Lakeview Hospital, Davis Hospital, South Davis Metro Fire Agency, funeral home directors, Utah State Office of Medical Examiner, Weber County Emergency Management and FBI Victim Services will be participating.

The drill will test responses to the simulated attack resulting in mass fatalities and a Family Assistance Center being established to support the families of passengers. Experts and local representatives from various emergency organizations will take part in conducting and evaluating the exercise.

The training will allow emergency personnel to evaluate their actions should they face a terrorist bomb explosion. Volunteers will act as victims or family members at both exercise locations. UTA is required to hold a full scale emergency response drill every year, Barron said.
