This year marks the 46th year of participation in the annual Anchorage Chamber of Commerce Citywide Cleanup, which will be held from Saturday May 2 – Saturday May 9. 

The event continues to grow each year in both participation and in garbage collected from our city streets and neighborhoods. During the 2014 Citywide Cleanup the Municipality of Anchorage Solid Waste Services department processed 5,350 vehicles throughout the week at our three facilities; and collected, and properly disposed of, 1235.11 tons of garbage.

The total garbage collected includes trash collected by Anchorage’s business and residential communities, as well as local schools. In 2014, the Anchorage School District had 70 schools participate, with some collecting over 100 bags of trash from their area alone; and the Anchorage Chamber of Commerce was able to distribute bags to more than 60 groups who had organized a cleanup, from a wide variety of industries.

As we have in the past, during the 2015 Citywide Cleanup Week, Solid Waste Services will accept free residential loads for disposal at the Anchorage Regional Landfill (ARL) from 8 A.M. to 5 P.M. on both Saturday, May 2, and Saturday, May 9. The Landfill is located in Eagle River, at the intersection of Hiland Road and the Glenn Hwy. The address is: 15500 E Eagle River Loop Rd.

Additionally, the Girdwood Transfer Station will also be open and accepting free loads from residents of the Municipality of Anchorage from 10 A.M. to 5 P.M. on Saturday May 2, and Saturday May 9.

Orange bags, which should be used to collect garbage intended to be discarded for free, are being distributed at Anchorage and Eagle River Fred Meyer locations. There is a limit of two per person.

Only residential waste is accepted for no fee during the Free Dump Days. All loads must be secured or covered to prevent littering in transit and must not exceed 1,000 pounds. Uncovered loads will be subject to fines. For any fee applicable loads, Anchorage Regional Landfill is only able to accept cash & local checks, please plan accordingly.

On both Saturday May 2 and Saturday May 9 the Central Transfer Station facility in Anchorage will be closed to all residential & commercial customers.
