Press Release Update Murder/Hate Crime Investigation

Summary:

On April 26, 2015, at approximately 2:30 pm, Rialto Police Officers responded to the 300 block of North Maple regarding a complaint of an assault with a deadly weapon. The victim, Armando Barron, had been beaten repeatedly in the head with a baseball bat in what Detectives believe was an unprovoked encounter. Barron was transported to an area hospital where he is currently being treated for life threatening injuries stemming from the assault. Rialto Police Detectives launched an investigation and quickly identified Jeremiah Bell (pictured) as the suspect in the beating. On April 27, 2015, Bell was arrested at his Fontana apartment for attempted murder and booked into West Valley Detention Center. He is currently awaiting court proceedings.

UPDATE: On April 29, 2015 the Rancho Cucamonga District Attorney’s Office filed attempt murder charges with a hate crime enhancement on Bell.

ADDITIONAL UPDATE: On April 30, 2015 the victim, Armando Barron, succumbed to his injuries sustained as the result of this incident. Armando Barron was pronounced dead at 1120 hours at Arrow Head Regional Medical Center.
