Carjacking Report Determined to be False

On April 25, 2015 at approximately 11:28 p.m., the Los Banos Police Department responded to the 400 Block of North Mercy Springs Road regarding a “carjacking” report. Officers contacted the 31-year-old reporting party who reported two males stole his vehicle while he was stopped at the intersection of San Luis Street and Mercy Spring Road.

On April 26, 2015 at approximately 5:30 p.m. Officers were alerted by the reporting party that his vehicle was parked in the 600 Block of I Street. Officers responded and contacted 30-year-old Julian
Oquendo inside the vehicle. After investigating the incident, Officers determined the vehicle had not been stolen but abandoned after the original reporting party was involved in a drug transaction disturbance the previous day.

After interviewing Oquendo, Officers placed him under arrest for being under the influence of a controlled substance and operating a vehicle under the influence of a drug.

“Cases like this take up a lot of our time and ultimately prevent us from helping the rest of the public. We cannot tolerate this behavior so we will be filing charges against the man who filed the original report.”
-Ray Reyna, Police Commander
