Sheriff Joseph M. Underwood J.R. reports that his Office responded to a single vehicle accident near the intersection of Calvin Center Rd and Brownsville St on 04/28/2015 at 22:00 hours. The driver of the vehicle, 55-year-old Richard Farkas of Edwardsburg, was headed northbound on Calvin Center on his way to work. Farkas told deputies that he tried to avoid an animal. Farkas drove of the roadway to the east before crossing back over the oncoming lane and overturning in a ditch on the west side of the road.

Farkas had minor injuries and was transported by medics to the St. Joseph Medical Center. Farkas was wearing his seatbelt at the time of the crash. Deputies do not believe alcohol was a factor in the crash.

The Penn Township Fire Department and the Life Care Medical Service assisted the Sheriff's Office at the accident scene.

This incident remains under investigation.
