WHAT: Battery in Downtown San Luis Obispo

On Tuesday afternoon, the San Luis Obispo Police Department responded to a report of a battery that had just occurred in the 600 block of Higuera St. The victim, a local business owner, reported that he had been struck on the mouth by a transient male. The suspect then fled the area on foot but was quickly located by responding officers about three blocks away. Officers identified the suspect as 39 year old Benjamin Mich Strickland, a transient resident of San Luis Obispo. Mr. Strickland was placed under arrest for PC- 242- Battery, a misdemeanor, and booked into custody at the San Luis Obispo County Jail. Mr. Strickland has been arrested in the past in downtown San Luis Obispo for other violent assaults including assault with a deadly weapon and battery causing great bodily injury in 2013.
