Distracted Driver Operation in Chula Vista yields 132 citations!

Chula Vista - Officers from the Chula Vista Police Department conducted a Distracted Driver Operation on Monday April 27th, 2015 between the hours of 3 PM and 9 PM within the City of Chula Vista.

Distracted driver operations concentrate on drivers talking on their cell phones or texting while operating a motor vehicle.

During this operation, traffic stops were conducted on 170 vehicles. 83 drivers were cited for utilizing their cell phone while driving and 49 drivers were cited for texting. 6 drivers were cited for either having a suspended driver’s license or no license at all. 2 vehicles were impounded during the operation for the driver not possessing a valid license or having a suspended license. 9 other citations were written for various vehicle code violations including: unsafe speed, red light violation, no lights on during darkness and driving with headphones in both ears.

This was the final operation in April focused on Distracted Driving and it was considered a successful operation. During the five Distracted Driving operations in April, traffic stops were conducted on 760 vehicles. 325 drivers were cited for utilizing their cell phone while driving, 224 drivers were cited for texting and 3 drivers under the age of 18 were cited for using their phone. The Chula Vista Police Department is continuing its efforts to keep our community safe by encouraging drivers to follow the rules of the road.
