Hawaiʻi Island police are investigating a robbery Wednesday night (April 22) at the Kurtistown ballpark.

Sometime between 7 p.m. and 8 p.m. Wednesday, a 53-year-old Mountain View man was approached by two men, who asked him for a cigarette. They then reportedly punched the victim in the face multiple times, hit him over the head with an empty bottle, dragged him into the men’s restroom, and continued the assault. They left with the victim’s black bag containing cash and other items and got into a car that had two women and three children inside.

The car drove off in the Volcano direction. It was described as a maroon Honda Accord with a fox racing sticker on the rear windshield and a yellow paint smear on the rear bumper.

The suspects are both described as being in their early-to-mid 30s, between 5-foot-5 and five-foot-7, and between 215 and 220 pounds.

One was described as Hawaiian with dark skin and short brown hair. He was wearing blue denim shorts, a black tank top and black slippers.

The other was described as “local Portuguese” with short black hair. He was wearing blue flowered-print surf shorts and no shirt. He had numerous tattoos on his neck, body, legs and arms.

Police ask anyone with information on their identity or whereabouts to call the Police Department’s non-emergency line at 935-3311.
