ASSAULT WITH DEADLY WEAPON
On Tuesday, April 14th, around 1 p.m., officers were dispatched to the Medallion Apartments (2500 Medallion Dr.) on reports of an assault with a knife. During an argument about money, the suspect cut the victim’s hand with a knife. Hector Cervantes, a 46-year-old Union City resident, was arrested.
WEEK IN REVIEW
Grand Theft:
On Monday, April 13th, around 9 p.m., Ofc. Fong and Sgt. Stewart responded to Best Buy (31350 Courthouse Dr.) on the report of a theft. A suspect cut a digital camera from its security cable and fled out the store’s rear exit. The suspect was described as a white or Hispanic male, 5’10” to 6’0” with a medium build. He was observed getting into a black newer model Mercedes four-door sedan.
Indecent Exposure:
On Friday, April 17th, around 10:30 a.m., Officers Solverson and DeJong were dispatched to the 31800 block of Alvarado Blvd. on a report of indecent exposure. The reporting party said the suspect exposed himself in front of the address, and has done so before. The suspect was described as an Asian male, 21-25 years old, 5’0” and 120 lbs., with brown hair. He was last seen wearing a light brown jacket and khaki pants, and may be transient.
Brandishing:
On Sunday, April 19th, around 11 a.m., Officer Rivas-Villegas was dispatched to the Medallion Apartments (2500 Medallion Dr.) on the report of a brandished firearm. It appears that during an argument over money, the suspect brandished a handgun at the victim. The suspect was identified, but the victim does not desire prosecution.
On Sunday, April 19th, around 11:30 a.m., Officer Woodard was dispatched to FoodMaxx (30073 Industrial Parkway) on the report of a suspect who stole beer and then brandished a knife at a store employee. Armando Godinez, a 30-year-old Hayward resident, was ultimately arrested.
BURGLARIES AND CAR THEFTS
RESIDENTIAL BURGLARIES
From Monday, April 13th through Sunday, April 19th, there were three reported residential burglaries and one attempt:
• 100 block of Windflower Lane: Occurred between Tuesday, April 7th and Tuesday, April 14th. There were no signs of forced entry, but a door may have been left unlocked. The house was ransacked, and the loss included a vehicle from the garage, electronics and a debit card. The vehicle was later found abandoned in Hayward.
• 34400 block of Willow Lane: Occurred between Wednesday, April 15th at 10 p.m., and Friday, April 17th at 2 p.m. A window was smashed with a brick. The house was ransacked, and electronics and gold coins were taken.
• 34800 block of Perry Rd.: Occurred on Friday, April 17th, around 11 a.m. A window was smashed. One room was ransacked, and electronics were taken. A witness reported a possible suspect leaving the residence in a gray, older model pickup. The suspect was described as an Asian male with shoulder-length black hair.
• 34300 block of Torrey Pine Lane (attempt only): No further information at this time
Safety Tip: At least one of the above burglaries occurred when the residents were on a trip. If you have plans to go out of town, ask a trusted friend, neighbor or family member to keep an eye on your property. If they notice any suspicious activities, people or vehicles while you are away, they should contact the police.
COMMERCIAL BURGLARIES
From Monday, April 13th through Sunday, April 19th, there was one reported commercial burglary:
• 32400 block of Central Ave.: Occurred between Friday, April 10th at 7 p.m., and Monday, April 13th at 6:30 a.m. A window was smashed; the loss included construction machinery and tools.
AUTO BURGLARIES AND VEHICLE THEFTS
From Monday, April 13th through Sunday, April 19th, there were two reported auto burglaries. They both occurred in the same shopping center, within very short timeframes. In one of the incidents, a backpack was left on the floor in plain view. Safety Tip: As a reminder, never leave items of value inside your vehicle!
From Monday, April 13th through Sunday, April 19th, there were five reported vehicle thefts. As of the time of this report, three of the vehicles have been recovered.
