How to Save a Life….
Horrific events of terror and tragedy have occurred in cities all over the US and even in our own backyards. Law enforcement finds themselves in a unique predicament where our goal to save lives does not stop with just catching the bad guy. In the aftermath of these tragic events the goal to save lives literally turns into a life-saving event. Law enforcement finds themselves with a unique opportunity to do both.
The Marietta Police Department has realized over the past several years that our training must go beyond just “stopping the bad guy” and we must be prepared to offer life-saving care to those victims involved in these tragic events. To that end, the Marietta Police Department has not only trained its officers in these life-saving skills but have also incorporated ten TEMS (Tactical Emergency Medical Support) Medics and one physician into our program. These TEMS Medics are licensed paramedics through the State of Georgia and are employed by the City of Marietta as police officers and fire fighters.
Because of this incredible accomplishment, the Marietta Police Department has been awarded a $4500 grant from the Law Enforcement Education Foundation. This grant will be used to send three of its TEMS Medics to an advanced tactical medic course that will further advance their training, knowledge and capabilities to save lives for when these tragic events occur.
