Sonoma County Sheriff's Office arrests two after the pursuit of a stolen vehicle.
On April 21, 2015 at about 11:17 PM, a Sonoma County Deputy Sheriff was on patrol in the parking lot of a motel on Cleveland Avenue, Santa Rosa. The Deputy noticed a white Acura Integra, which had been reported stolen through the Santa Rosa Police Department. The car was parked and there was no one in or near it. Detectives from the Sonoma County Auto Theft Task Force were summoned to take over the investigation.
At about 11:52 PM, the car drove away from the parking lot at a high rate of speed southbound on Cleveland Avenue. It blew through the red light at the intersection of Guerneville Road and accelerated to over 85 mph. Fortunately, there was very little traffic on the roadway.
The driver continued driving recklessly at a high rate of speed, not stopping for red lights at intersections and swerving around other vehicles to avoid hitting them. Other Deputies, CHP Officers and Santa Rosa PD Officers responded to the area to assist.
Near Piner Road, the car drove over spike strips which punctured the front and rear right tires. Undeterred, the driver continued speeding reaching 90 mph. Somewhere in the area of Woolsey Road, the right front tire came completely off the rim. The driver continued driving and speeding, clearly having difficulty maintaining control of the car.
The driver continued out River Road until about Argonne Way, the car left the roadway and became stuck in the soft dirt of the shoulder. As soon as it stopped, the male driver fled on foot. A female climbed out the passenger window and also began running.
The passenger, Pearl Pia Von Renner, a 19 year old from Guerneville, was quickly apprehended. The male driver was chased on foot by Deputies, up Argonne Way where he slid down the hillside landing on Trenton Rd. He crossed the road and ran into the brush, then jumped down into a shallow creek. With Deputies following closely behind, he was subdued and captured.
The driver was Michael Brandon Campbell, a 33 year old transient from the Santa Rosa area. He was out on bail for a previous vehicle theft and had no valid driver’s license. He was booked into county jail for Vehicle Theft, Possession of Stolen Property, Recklessly Evade Arrest, Committing a Felony while Out on Bail, Resisting Arrest, and Driving on a Suspended License. He is scheduled to appear before a judge April 23 at 1:30. His bail was set at $225,000.
Pearl Von Renner was booked into county jail for Possession of Stolen Property and Resisting Arrest. Her bail was set at $10,000 and she is scheduled to appear before a judge April 23 at 1:30.
Upon inspection, the car’s ignition had clearly been tampered with. The rightful owner was notified of its condition and location. The distance travelled during the pursuit almost 13 miles over roughly 23 minutes. It involved over 20 different police units from a variety of agencies to bring it to a safe conclusion.
