An unknown suspect entered the victim’s residence through an unlocked sliding glass door located on the patio.  Once inside, the suspect removed the items listed below before fleeing.  The victim’s roommates were asleep in their rooms during the burglary.

  • 100 BLOCK OF 29TH STREET (15-2963) RD15

Occurred on: 4/12/2015 between 12:00 a.m. and 2:00 a.m.

An unknown suspect entered the victim’s residence by unknown means and removed an iPad from the couch.  The victim discovered the burglary when he returned home and found his TV on and several bedroom doors that had been closed, now opened.  When officers arrived, they found no signs of forced entry.  The victim reported that all of the doors were locked when he arrived home, except for a second story patio slider, which he had left unlocked.  It did not appear that the suspect entered the residence through the unlocked slider because the patio is only accessible with a ladder.

Loss:  iPad

Suspect Information:  None seen or heard.

Home Security Tips

·   Always lock your windows and doors when you go out, even if for only a few minutes.

o   If you return home and find your pedestrian door that leads into your home locked, and you are certain that you left it unlocked, DO NOT GO INSIDE!  Call the police immediately at 9-1-1.  Burglars often lock this door to slow down a victim, allowing the burglar extra time to get out of the home before the resident enters.

·   If your home is equipped with an alarm, always activate it even if you’re only going out for a short walk.

·   Always keep your front and rear porch lights on from dusk to dawn and use motion detector lighting along the sides of your home or areas with little foot traffic.

·   If your garage door has a remote shutoff button (on the wall-mounted control) located in the garage, consider locking the door nightly.  This will prevent your garage door from being open remotely.

·   When you leave on vacation remember to call the Police Department for a “Vacation Check” (949) 644-3717 or sign up on line at www.nbpd.org.  Also, ask a trusted friend or neighbor to pick up your paper and mail while you are away.
