Wrong Way Driver Arrested for OWI

Tippecanoe County-This morning at about 5:35 a.m. on US 52 near Montmorenci, IN, a wrong way driver was stopped and the driver was ultimately arrested for OWI.

A preliminary investigation by Trooper Jared McQueary has shown that a black 2013 Dodge Dart Driven by David A. Pelis, 46 of Lebanon, IN was WB in the EB lanes of US 52.  When the Dodge Dart was stopped, it had a flat right front tire and part of the front bumper was missing.

Upon further examination, it was alleged that Pelis was operating while intoxicated and tested a .12% B.A.C.  Pelis was incarcerated in the Tippecanoe County Jail on preliminary charges of OWI with Prior Conviction.  The car was towed by J& T Wrecker.  Tippecanoe County assisted in the stop.

“This driver may not have been taken off the road if it were not for another motorist calling and reporting this driving behavior,” states Trooper McQueary.

If you see a possible drunk driver or any type of suspicious activity, call 911 and report it.  Do not follow or try to take action yourself.

Suspects are innocent until proven guilty in a court of law.
