End the Demand: Anti-Human-Trafficking Operation Results in Five Arrests for Solicitation

For Immediate Release
April 17, 2015

Oakland, CA —On Thursday, April 16, 2015, the Oakland Police Department Special Victims Section conducted another of its many anti-human-trafficking operations targeting the “demand” component of this terrible problem. While past efforts have solely focused on the traffickers (“pimps”), the Oakland Police Department is now expanding is efforts to target those who actually create the demand for this modern day slavery (exploiters or “Johns”).

During the April 16, 2015 operation, five individuals were arrested for solicitation of prostitution. These individuals were from the five following cities:
• Oakland
• San Pablo
• San Mateo
• Kensington
• San Rafael

Since January 1, 2015, OPD has arrested 70 individuals from 27 cities across the State for solicitation of prostitution. Only 22 were actually from Oakland.

Photographs of those arrested and charged are posted for two weeks on the Oakland Police Department’s Human Trafficking page (http://www2.oaklandnet.com/Government/o/OPD/s/HumanTrafficking/index.htm). Please visit this site for recent photographs as well as a breakdown of 2015 arrests made in Oakland for human trafficking. With your help, we can End the Demand in Oakland.
