One booked for counterfeit currency after APD/USSS investigation...

On 4-16-15, at about 4:00 PM, APD and United States Secret Service investigators conducted an investigation into possible counterfeit currency at an apartment in the 3600 block of S. Polk.  They made contact with Jordan Kelly Leitner WM 25 at the home.  Officers searched the home with consent, and found a total of about $250 dollars in small denominations and a computer printer concealed there.  Officers that arrested Leitner found a counterfeit $5 in his pocket.  This bill appeared to match the ones already found in the home.  Officers located forged checks that were linked to a January auto burglary in S. Amarillo in the home.  Leitner was transported to the Randall County Sheriff’s Office and booked on a charge of forgery of a government security.  Investigators advised that this case remains open and that they anticipate more combined efforts by the APD and USSS to investigate local counterfeiting activity.

Officers reported that the counterfeit money lacked certain security features included in authentic U.S. currency.  For information about how to detect counterfeit currency, see the Secret Service web site, http://www.secretservice.gov/know_your_money.shtml
