On 04/16/2015 just after 8:00 pm, Steuben County Sheriff’s deputies arrested 21 year old Shyanne R. Kauffman of Angola on a warrant charging Kauffman with one count of neglect of a dependent causing serious bodily injury, a level 3 felony. The arrest warrant was issued by the Steuben County Circuit Court following a nearly 6 month Sheriff’s Office investigation. In September of 2014, Sheriff’s detectives were contacted by the Steuben County Department of Child Services regarding a 6 month old infant who allegedly had been malnourished and was admitted to the hospital and placed on a ventilator. Kauffman was taken into custody without incident and booked into the Steuben County Jail. She is being held without bond pending an initial court appearance. The Sheriff’s Office was assisted in the investigation by the Steuben County Department of Child Services.
