ATTEMPTED HOMICIDE
On Monday, April 6th, around 6:15 p.m., officers were dispatched to the 34900 block of Peco St. on reports of a victim bleeding from his chest and back. Ultimately, this case was determined to be an attempted homicide, as the victim was stabbed multiple times. The suspect – a 16-year-old male and Union City resident – was arrested.
WEEK IN REVIEW
Grand Theft:
On Thursday, April 9th, around 9 a.m., Ofc. Rivas-Villegas was dispatched to the 32600 block of Foxglove Way on the report of an auto burglary. Due to the fact that the vehicle was apparently left unlocked overnight, the crime was determined to be a grand theft. A work bag and wallet were stolen. ***ALWAYS REMEMBER TO LOCK UP YOUR VALUABLES!***
Assault With Deadly Weapon:
On Saturday, April 11th, around 10:15 p.m., Ofc. Bedford was dispatched to the Chevron gas station at 1990 Decoto Rd. on the report of an assault with a deadly weapon. The victim stated that he pulled his vehicle over to check his cell phone, when a suspect opened the passenger door and stabbed him multiple times. It appears this was not a random incident, and the suspect is known to the victim. Detectives are continuing to investigate this case.
On Sunday, April 12th, around 8:30 p.m., officers were dispatched to the area of Alvarado-Niles Rd. and Skylark Dr. on the report of an assault with a deadly weapon. The suspect threw a large, plastic garbage can at the victim. The 35-year-old male, San Leandro resident, was arrested.
Brandishing:
On Sunday, April 12th, around 12:45 p.m., Ofc. Parodi was dispatched to Walmart on the report of a weapon brandishing. The victim said he met three suspects in the parking lot of Starbucks on Alvarado Blvd. to retrieve his stolen cell phone, which one of the suspects said he would sell back to him for $50. After the victim retrieved his phone, he refused to pay the suspect. As he was driving out of the lot, all three suspects threatened to beat him up, and one of them brandished a knife. The suspects also followed his vehicle for a short time.
Armed Robbery:
On Sunday, April 12th, around 11 p.m., Ofc. Jensen was dispatched to St. Rose Hospital in Hayward on a report of a male subject who had been stabbed. The victim stated he was attacked by five Hispanic males in their 20s when he was walking on Alameda Creek Trail behind the Crowne Plaza Hotel. He said the suspects hit him multiple times, and one pointed a black handgun at him. Only after running to a nearby friend’s house did the victim realize he had been stabbed. The suspects stole the victim’s wallet and cell phone.
BURGLARIES AND CAR THEFTS
RESIDENTIAL BURGLARIES
From Monday, April 6th through Sunday, April 12th, there were three reported residential burglaries and one attempt:
• 32600 block of Kenita Way: Occurred on Monday, April 6th, between 1 p.m. and 1:27 p.m. A rear kitchen window was smashed. The loss is unknown at this time.
• 32400 block of Lois Way: Occurred on Monday, April 6th, between 8 a.m. and 5 p.m. No signs of forced entry. The burglar was arrested and was found in possession of items from this burglary and the below burglary across the street.
• 32400 block of Lois Way: Occurred on Monday, April 6th, between 11 a.m. and 5:30 p.m. No signs of forced entry. The burglar was arrested and was found in possession of items from this burglary and the above burglary across the street.
• 4400 block of Ellen Way (attempt only): A neighbor observed a juvenile with a backpack jump over a fence into the backyard. The 15-year-old male, Hayward resident, was arrested before he made entry. Stolen items from the two burglaries on Lois Way were found in his backpack.
COMMERCIAL BURGLARIES
From Monday, April 6th through Sunday, April 12th, there were two reported commercial burglaries:
• 31950 Dyer St.: Occurred on Monday, April 6th, around 7 p.m. A suspect (see attached photos) climbed over the front desk of the Extended Stay Hotel and stole a backpack.
• 1700 block of Whipple Rd.: Occurred on Tuesday, April 7th, around 6 a.m. The front window was smashed, and someone tried to pry open the safe. The loss is unknown at this time.
AUTO BURGLARIES AND VEHICLE THEFTS
From Monday, April 6th through Sunday, April 12th, there were five reported auto burglaries. Three of the burglaries occurred in the same shopping center, and purses were stolen from the vehicles. Safety Tip: As a reminder, never leave items of value inside your vehicle!
From Monday, April 6th through Sunday, April 12th, there were six reported vehicle thefts. As of the time of this report, three of the vehicles have been recovered.
BURGLARY UPDATE – HAVE YOU SEEN THIS MAN?
On the morning of April 1st, a vehicle was burglarized in Union City. Shortly thereafter, one of the victim's credit cards was used at the Safeway in Newark by the suspect in the attached photo. Detectives are attempting to ID him.
