Drivers in Chula Vista still using the phone while driving, 110 citations issued in latest operation!

Chula Vista - Officers from the Chula Vista Police Department conducted a Distracted Driver Operation on Wednesday April 15, 2015 between the hours of 4 PM and 9 PM within the City of Chula Vista.

Distracted driver operations concentrate on drivers talking on their cell phones or texting while operating a motor vehicle.

During this operation, traffic stops were conducted on 151 vehicles. 68 drivers were cited for utilizing their cell phone while driving, 41 drivers were cited for texting and 1 driver under the age of 18 using the cell phone. 4 drivers were cited for either having a suspended driver’s license or no license at all. 3 vehicles were impounded during the operation for the driver not possessing a valid license or having a suspended license. 12 other citations were written for various vehicle code violations including: seatbelt violation, no lights on during darkness, stop sign, expired registration, and driving with headphones in both ears.
This was the third of five operations in April focused on Distracted Driving and it was considered a successful operation. The Chula Vista Police Department is continuing its efforts to keep our community safe by encouraging drivers to follow the rules of the road.
