Sonoma County Coroner’s Office identifies the man killed in an industrial accident at a construction site in Petaluma.

Sonoma County Sheriff Coroner’s Office is releasing the name the person who died in the industrial accident on the morning of April 15, 2015 at a construction site off Highway 101 in Petaluma.

The deceased is identified as Jared Overfield, a 28 year old man from Novato, CA. His family was located and informed of his death.

Overfield was an employee of Maggiora & Ghilotti engineering contractors. He was working on the construction site moving a 40’ length of pipe, weighing approximately 8,000 pounds, from a forklift. Overfield was positioned in front of the equipment when the pipe rolled and crushed him underneath.

The Sonoma County Coroner’s Office will conduct an autopsy to determine the cause and manner of Overfield’s death.

The California Division of Occupational Safety and Health, commonly known as Cal/OSHA, is conducting the investigation into the circumstances surrounding the industrial accident.

The Sonoma County Sheriff’s Office’s investigation will parallel that of Cal/OSHA. It is the State Department of Industrial Relations that will determine any violations of industry regulations, policy or procedures.
