Whoa! The newest member of the Malibu/Lost Hills Sheriff’s Station volunteer staff isn’t just a local resident who generously contributes their time and expertise to the community. This volunteer is really special: She has four legs, a mane and a tail, and her name is Valor.
Valor is a type of Miniature horse, trained to work with law enforcement communities, hospitals, hospice programs, outreach programs, and those who have experienced traumatic events. She is one of five horses from ‘Gentle Carousel Miniature Therapy Horses,’ a nonprofit organization dedicated to visiting and assisting a range of people in need, recently affiliated with the Malibu/Lost Hills Sheriff’s Station’s Volunteer program.
As a new station volunteer, Valor’s duty assignment is to provide comfort and consolation as a therapy horse, as well as heighten spirits.
On Thursday, April 23, 2015, between 4:00 P.M. and 5:30 P.M., one of the Miniature horses will gallop over to the Malibu Library to be part of an event promoting children literacy in the Malibu/Lost Hills-area. This innovative approach is intended to encourage children to learn more through reading by piquing their interest with books about the Miniature horses.
Join us in front of the library to hear stories about the extraordinary work these Miniature horses do and enjoy the opportunity to interact with one!
For event information, please contact Malibu/Lost Hills Station Lieutenant Jennifer Seetoo at 818-878-1808.
