Dearborn, MI. — Dearborn, Mi. —  Yesterday at about 7:20pm, Dearborn Police, assisted by the United States Marshals Service, arrested 17 year-old Ezra Rodriguez Jr, of Detroit, for crimes related to the April 7th, 2015 carjacking and kidnapping of a Dearborn woman.

Today at 10:00am, Rodriguez was arraigned in front of the Honorable Judge Sam Salamey in Dearborn’s 19th District Court on the following charges:

•           Carjacking

•           Kidnapping

•           Armed Robbery

•           Felony Firearms

•           Criminal Sexual Conduct

The maximum penalty for conviction of these crimes is up to life in prison or any number of years.

Rodriguez was arrested after an exhaustive informational campaign which included blanketing various neighborhoods in and around Dearborn and Detroit with informational fliers which included a sketch depicting the perpetrator.  Numerous appeals were made to the community for assistance in identifying and locating the perpetrator of this heinous and violent crime.

Rodriquez is currently being held on a $1million bond with a preliminary exam scheduled for May 1, 2015 at 9:00am in Dearborn’s 19th District Court.

Chief Ronald Haddad stated:  “After receiving countless tips from the community, our Detectives worked tirelessly along with our Surveillance team, to put together a case and obtain the necessary warrants for an arrest with the help of the Wayne County Prosecutor’s office.  After a warrant was obtained, Dearborn’s Special Operations officers monitored the suspect around-the-clock and formulated an arrest plan with our partners in the US Marshals Service to safely apprehend the suspect during this incident.”

“I would like to thank the members of our community who stood together to assist the victim and kept vigilant to provide the information that assisted in the identification and arrest of this individual.”

“Furthermore, I would like to commend the members of the Dearborn Police Department, and the US Marshal’s Service for continuing to do superior work that the entire region has come to expect.  The teamwork between the community and our law enforcement partners is what makes Dearborn a highly desirable place to live, work and visit.”
