Advisory

Collision on Eastbound SR4 at 680

PRESS RELEASE
MARTINEZ POLICE DEPARTMENT

On Tuesday, April 14, 2015, at about 1546 hours, a Martinez Police officer saw a motorcyclist speeding in the area of eastbound SR4 approaching Pine Street. The officer attempted to catch up to the motorcycle to initiate a traffic stop, but the motorcycle continued east on SR4 reaching an estimated speed of 100 MPH.

Initially, the officer activated his emergency equipment to initiate the traffic stop, but upon realizing the motorcycle was approaching traffic congestion at a high speed, the officer turned off his emergency equipment in the area of SR4 and Morello Avenue. The officer then pulled to the right side of the roadway to fall in behind traffic waiting to exit SR4 at Pacheco Blvd.

As the officer pulled to the right to exit the freeway, he noted an accident ahead of him in the area of east bound SR4 at the southbound 680 onramp. The officer was then notified by a citizen that a motorcycle had collided into other vehicles before coming to rest in the roadway. At that point, the Martinez officer rendered medical aid with the assistance of a bystander. ConFire and AMR were requested and responded to the scene. The subject involved in the collision was determined to be the same subject riding the motorcycle the officer was attempting to initiate a traffic stop on.

This collision is being investigated by CHP. All questions concerning the collision and the rider’s condition should be directed to the CHP.
