West Covina PD recognizes National Public Safety Dispatcher Week

National Public Safety Dispatcher Week

Date of release: April 14, 2015
Prepared by: Lieutenant Dave Lee

The City of West Covina is proud to recognize the outstanding work and dedication provided by the department's Communications Center during National Public Safety Dispatcher Week, April 11-18, 2015. In 1991, Congress formally proclaimed the second week of April as a time to honor public safety dispatchers nationwide.

Public safety dispatchers are often the first point of contact with the community during an emergency. The dispatchers' role is crucial in gathering information, assessing, and deploying appropriate emergency response when time is of the essence. The skills, knowledge, and dedication each dispatcher exhibits while assisting the public deserve recognition, not only during this week of celebration, but throughout the year.

The 13 full time and 2 part time dedicated personnel of the West Covina Dispatch Center work around the clock all year to provide service and support for the citizens of West Covina and the men and women of the West Covina Police and Fire Departments. Our dispatchers work tirelessly with our public safety as well as allied agencies for a variety of services in order to provide the best service for those in need.

Chief Dave Faulkner added that Public Safety Dispatchers are “truly unsung heroes in the department. They face stressful situations every day and are the calming voice for those in need of emergency services.”

West Covina Police Chief Dave Faulkner and West Covina Fire Chief Larry Whithorn along with all public safety personnel want publicly thank our dedicated, skilled and compassionate dispatchers who are an integral part of public safety services.
