LIVING WATER Earth Day Celebration – This Saturday, April 18th at Santiago Park Nature Center

The City of Santa Ana is partnering with CYPHER to host an Earth Day Celebration on Saturday, April 18th from 1:00 p.m. to 4 p.m. at Santiago Park Nature Center. The theme is ‘Living Water’ – exploring indigenous knowledge and community wisdom as resources for practical and innovative solutions to environmental challenges and health disparity. The event features state advocate Janet King, award-winning actor Tonantzin Carmelo, and the cultural arts group TONGVAGAR.

“We are proud to bring the community together to celebrate Earth Day and learn about the importance of water and great traditions of respecting the earth and its natural resources,” said Santa Ana Councilmember and Orange County Water District Board Member Roman Reyna. “By doing so, we can learn to better conserve water and help ensure its reliability for future generations,” he adds.

“CYPHER is extremely excited to be working with the City of Santa Ana and its forward-thinking leadership,” said R. Bong Vergara, Director of CYPHER. “As every neighborhood in our state looks for ways to deal with an unprecedented drought, it is timely to focus on meaningful engagement of communities in finding solutions.”

‘Living Water’ also launches #MyKnowledgeCounts, a campaign to promote the use of indigenous and community knowledge in developing solutions to climate change. Details on the #MyKnowledgeCounts campaign can be found on the CYPHER website. ‘Living Water’ is part of the WPAY+20 advocacy campaign (#YouthNow) marking the 20th anniversary of the World Program Action for Youth (WPAY) commemorated by the Office of the Secretary-General's Envoy on Youth and UN Department of Economic and Social Affairs, and aims to engage local communities in solution-making.
