Four Probationary Troopers Issued Police Cars to Start Solo Road Patrol in Peru District

 

Indianapolis - Today, 40 probationary troopers from the 74th Indiana State Police Recruit Academy class was issued their state police cars at the Indiana State Police garage located at the Indiana State Police Indianapolis District. Four of the officers are assigned to the Indiana State Police Peru Post and will start solo patrol in the district which covers Cass, Fulton, Grant, Howard, Tipton, Wabash, and Miami Counties. The probationary officers recently completed a three month field training period with veteran troopers. They will serve a one year probationary period before attaining permanent status as a trooper.

 

In addition to the field training, the new officers received approximately 917 hours of structured training in law enforcement techniques when they were assigned to Indiana State Police Recruit Academy. The curriculum included criminal law instruction, emergency vehicle operations training, psychology, and survival Spanish. They also developed skills in criminal investigation, vehicle crash investigation, and impaired driver prevention and detection.

 

Probationary troopers assigned to the Indiana State Police Peru Post:

 

Probationary Trooper Dustin Rutledge is a native of Frankfort, IN and a 2010 graduate of Frankfort High School. He has a bachelor’s degree in sports and exercise studies from Huntington University. He will patrol primarily in Wabash County.

 

Probationary Trooper Matthew Moon is a native of Logansport, IN. He is a 2008 graduate of Lewis Cass High School.  He worked as a Howard County correctional officer and an Indiana Capitol Police officer prior to becoming a trooper. He will patrol primarily in Cass County.

 

Probationary Trooper Kyle Miller is a Kokomo, IN native and 2010 graduate of Northwestern High School. He is currently a military police officer in the Indiana National Guard. He will patrol primarily in Howard/Tipton Counties.

 

Probationary Trooper Corey Posey is a Muncie, IN native and 2010 graduate of Heritage Hall Christian High School. He is currently serving as a member of the United States Marine Corp Reserve. He holds a bachelor’s degree in criminal justice from Ball State University. He will patrol primarily in Grant County.
