UPDATE:
The driver, and solo occupant, of the vehicle involved in the collision was safely removed from the truck by San Luis Obispo City Fire personnel. The power was shut off by PG&E shortly after 6:00 PM and the driver was transported to Sierra Vista by San Luis Ambulance at 6:20 PM. The driver received non-life threatening injuries as a result of the accident.

Drugs and alcohol do not appear to be a factor in this accident. The driver told investigating officers he swerved to avoid hitting a dog.

ORIGINAL:
San Luis Obispo Police and Fire responded to a traffic accident involving a vehicle that collided with a power pole. The vehicle was traveling southbound on Johnson Avenue. For an unknown reason the driver veered left, crossing two lanes of opposing traffic and collided with the power pole. The pole was sheared off at the base and came to rest on the vehicle. The power lines landed on top of the vehicle trapping the driver inside. The driver is still currently trapped inside of the vehicle until PG&E can safely turn off the power allowing Fire to extricate the driver. Below is a photo from the scene.
