The Amarillo Police Department has added a public information feature to the web site. Previously, information not made available through media/public releases or through the APD’s subscriber based message service (Nixle) was available by contacting the Department. The new feature enables the public to access the web based information directly. The information that is posted includes dates of reports, complainant’s names and addresses when required by law, names of arrested persons, and address and a description of the incident. The posted information does not include information involving juvenile offenders, details and identities of persons involved in suicides or mental health cases, offenses involving child abuse or neglect, references to people that are suspects but who have not been arrested or charged in an offense, or identity of a victim or specific details in a reported sexual assault.
The report listing is accessed through the “REPORTS” pull down tab at “PUBLIC RELEASE.”
If you would like more information than is currently available through the list, directions to make a formal public information request are posted on the APD site’s main page, http://police.amarillo.gov .
The APD site’s home page shows all media releases already sent out to the public. You can have this information delivered to your phone or email by subscribing at www.nixle.com. This information is direct from the department and delivered through a secure server, without advertising or the need to download a separate application or program.
