Requesting public’s help identifying theft suspects

The Arlington Police Department is reaching out to the public in an attempt to identify theft suspects, who failed at their attempt to steal a cash machine from a convenience store this week. Video surveillance from the store’s camera system can be viewed on the APD YouTube Channel by clicking here, http://tinyurl.com/qeonlv3.

On Wednesday, April 8, 2015, at about 4 a.m. officers were dispatched to a convenience store in the 900 block of Watson Road, which is near State Highway 360 and Interstate 30. Upon arrival, officers learned that three suspects wearing dark clothing and masks had tried to steal the ATM cash machine from the store. Witnesses described seeing a truck back up to the store’s front doors. One of the three men inside the truck got out and attempted to affix a chain around the ATM, which was just inside the doorway of the store. The other end of the chain was attached to the truck. After a few unsuccessful attempts at pulling the ATM out of the store, the three men fled on foot and left the truck.

The store was open at the time with two clerks inside. A man in the parking lot told officers that he saw the men running away from the store and tried to confront them using pepper spray, but it had no impact on them. Officers determined that the truck had been reported stolen from Dallas, and are working with Dallas Police as they continue their investigation.

Anyone with information about this attempted theft is encouraged to call Arlington Police Department Detective Tom Stellato at 817 459-5782, or provide an anonymous tip using Crime Stoppers at 817 469-TIPS (8477). Tipsters may be eligible for a reward of up to $1,000 from Crime Stoppers.
