Sunday April 12th around 8:00 am Troopers were temporarily stopping traffic in both directions on I-465 at the Ditch Road overpass for utility work. The closure lasted for 12 minutes while fiber optic cables were strung across the interstate. Traffic in both directions backed up for less than a mile. At the conclusion of the closure, Master Trooper Mike Meinczinger was traveling westbound on I-465 near the 29 mile marker when he observed a white passenger car traveling westbound in the eastbound lanes at a high rate of speed. He estimated the speed of the passenger car to be over 55 miles per hour and said it appeared to be traveling on the emergency shoulder with the flashers on. The interstate had been reopened by this time and eastbound traffic in the area was traveling at highway speeds. Trooper Meinczinger quickly activated his emergency lights and proceeded to turn around at Michigan Road and attempt to stop the driver. As Trooper Meinczinger turned onto the ramp from Michigan Road to I-465 eastbound he found the driver exiting onto the ramp. The driver was attempting to get to Michigan Road after traveling nearly 2 miles the wrong direction. The driver was arrested for reckless driving, a Class B Misdemeanor, punishable by up to 180 days in jail and up to a $1,000 fine.
The driver of the white 2014 Ford Focus, Alyandro Reyes Segovia Karnes, stated he was trying to get home after working all night and did not want to sit in traffic.
