Sheriff's Helicopter Henry1 Assists Sea Ranch Fire Department with Bluff Rescue

Press Release

Henry 1 rescue 4/11/2015: CR#150411-005

On 4/11/2015, at about 3:12 am, Sheriff’s Helicopter Henry 1 was dispatched along with Sea Ranch Fire Department, Timber Cove Fire Department, Coast Life Support, CDF and REACH regarding a 29 year old man who had fallen while climbing on a bluff in the Sea Ranch.

Henry 1 arrived on scene at about 4:05 am. Firefighters and Coast Life Support personnel had located the injured man on the beach below a bluff, stabilized his injuries and secured him in a litter. Due to the terrain and the time of day, moving the man by ground would have been difficult and time consuming. The Henry 1 crew landed on top of the bluff and rigged the helicopter for a 100’ longline rescue. The Henry1 pilot flew the sergeant on the end of the longline to the patient on the beach below. The patient litter was attached to the long line and the pilot flew the patient, the sergeant and a paramedic to the top of the bluff.

The patient was then transferred to a REACH helicopter for transport to a local hospital.

The Henry 1 crew consists of a pilot, deputy sheriff/EMT and a paramedic, all trained to perform long line rescues in the ocean, on cliffs and other remote areas located along the North Coast.
