One Person Killed in One Vehicle Crash

One Person Killed in One Vehicle Crash

Fairland, In- A one vehicle crash yesterday evening has claimed the life the driver.

Last evening at approximately 7:15 p.m., Indiana State Police Trooper Jonathan Haugh along with officers from the Indiana Department of Natural Resources and the Shelby County Sheriff’s Department responded to a one vehicle crash at 312 E. Main Street, Fairland IN.

Preliminary investigation and witness statements reveled that a 2007 Ford Taurus was traveling SB on CR 400 West approaching East Main Street at a fast rate of speed. This area of the county road is a 90 degree turn. The driver failed to negotiate the turn and drove straight into a line of trees and bushes. Witnesses to the crash said the car began to smoke and they rushed to the scene to assist the driver. Unfortunately, due to the condition of the wrecked vehicle the good Samaritans were unable to free the victim and the car became engulfed in flames very quickly.

The driver, the only person in the vehicle, was pronounced deceased at scene by the Shelby County Corners Office.

Due to the condition of the victim, positive identification will be made through dental records at the autopsy that is scheduled to be conducted on Friday April 10th.

The victim’s identification will be released when the corners office makes positive identification and the family has been notified.
