Detective Andy Manis of the McDowell County Sheriff’s Office charged Stephanie Spencer Abee, 29, of White Pine Drive in Marion, with one felony count each of assault on a handicapped person and intentional child abuse resulting in serious physical injury.
Abee is accused of abusing her 6-year-old developmentally delayed stepson.
The boy showed up at school Tuesday with bruises on his head and body.
Manis said it is believed that the incident occurred Monday night when the child’s father was not at home.
The Sheriff’s Office received the case from the McDowell County Department of Social Services. DSS currently has custody of the victim.
