LA CANADA FLINTRIDGE RESIDENTS ASSIST DEPUTIES IN MAKING ARRESTS

On two occasions La Canada Flintridge residents greatly facilitated the arrest of suspects by observing suspicious activity and immediately reporting it to the Crescenta Valley Sheriff’s Station.

On Wednesday, March 18, 2015, at 12:44 PM, Cresecenta Valley Sheriff’s Station received a phone call from a watchful La Canada Flintridge resident who reported a man and a woman appeared to be breaking into a neighbor’s house by crawling through their window.  Deputies responded and ultimately arrested both individuals for narcotics, weapons, and identity theft.

On Thursday, March 19, 2015, at 11:56 AM, Crescenta Valley Sheriff’s Station received a phone call from another watchful La Canada Flintridge resident who stated two suspicious males knocked on the front door of his neighbor’s house, waited a couple of minutes then opened a closed gate and entered the backyard.  After a short period, the two males were seen leaving the location.  Because the vigilant neighbor called to report suspicious activity, deputies were able to respond and catch one of the males who fit the description.  Burglary tools and property belonging to the neighbor were found in a backpack belonging to one of the males.

These incidents are examples of how the local community’s vigilance can help Crescenta Valley Sheriff’s Station prevent and quickly respond to local crimes.

To continue this effective partnership in preventing crimes, please consider the following tips:

  • Call Crescenta Valley Sheriff’s Station immediately if you observe any suspicious activity or crime. You can be the eyes for your neighborhood.
  • Make sure all of your doors, windows, and gates are locked and secured at all times. Securing your valuables is vital in preventing the potential for becoming a future victim.
  • Consider investing in and installing an alarm and/or surveillance system.
  • Do not hide a spare key in an easily accessible location.
  • Join or create a neighborhood watch and know your neighbors.  When you do an extra set of eyes are always watching out for you.
  • Keep your home well-lit.
  • Be a good witness if observing something suspicious; note license plates, clothing and physical features.
  • Do not allow newspapers and mail to build-up if you are leaving town—ask a neighbor or friend to pick it up for you and to check on your residence periodically until you return.
  • Always call Crescenta Valley Sheriff’s Station if you see something suspicious
