Indiana State Police Forensic Scientist Receives Promotion
Laboratory- Recently, Indiana State Police Superintendent Douglas G. Carter promoted Laboratory Forensic Scientist EVII Mark A. Ahonen to Forensic Scientist EVI to serve as the Chemistry Section Supervisor. He received his promotion through a competitive interview process.
In his new capacity, Ahonen will be responsible for the daily operations of the ISP Drug Units and Microanalysis (Trace) Unit statewide.
Mr. Ahonen is a 26 year civilian veteran of the Indiana State Police. He was hired in 1988 as a chemist II in the Microanalysis Unit of the Laboratory. In 1991 he was promoted to the Microanalysis Unit Supervisor.
Mr. Ahonen has been a Diplomat of the American Board of Criminalistics since 2000. He is a member of the Midwestern Association of Forensic Scientists and the American Society of Trace Evidence Examiners. He has also been a member of the Scientific Working Group for Material Analysis and participated in the White House Sub Committee on Forensic Practices and Protocols.
He is a graduate of Goshen High School and received a chemistry degree from Butler University in 1987. He currently resides in Hancock County with his wife and four kids.
