Early this morning baby formula thieves led police on a high-speed chase. Both suspects were arrested after being located by a police K9.

Pleasanton Police Officers were patrolling the Bernal Safeway parking lot when a male subject (later identified as Demarko Luke of Oakland) ran out of Safeway carrying two baskets of Enfamil baby formula. Luke got into an orange Chevrolet Cavalier driven by a female (later identified as Dejan Martin of San Leandro). As Safeway employees were calling in the theft, Martin led officers on a pursuit northbound on I-680. Martin exited onto eastbound Stoneridge Drive, lost control, and nearly collided with a pole at Stoneridge/Johnson Ct.

Both Luke and Martin ran from the vehicle toward Val Vista Park. Responding officers quickly set a perimeter and a police K9 Officer eventually located both suspects hiding within the perimeter. Luke and Martin were booked at Santa Rita Jail on multiple felony counts. In addition to the formula stolen from Safeway, police recovered a trunk full of baby formula probably stolen from other locations. This case is likely related to a previous theft of baby formula at the same Safeway on 03/01/15 with similar suspect and vehicle descriptions.
