City of Seal Beach and OC Water Agencies to Conduct Test of Regional Emergency Notification System

Register with AlertOC to Receive Disaster Notifications

(Seal Beach, CA) – On April 7, Residents of the City of Seal Beach and over two million Orange County residents will receive a call, text or email at 3 p.m. to test the County’s regional mass notification system, known as AlertOC.

Residents are encouraged to register their cell phone numbers, email addresses and other alternate numbers to be a part of the regional test and to receive important life-saving information when a real disaster strikes.

The key feature of AlertOC is the ability for residents to register more than one contact method at a specific address. The system already uses landline phone numbers; however registration of cell phones and e-mail addresses allows the system to reach the greatest number of community members as rapidly as possible through a single notification system.

The AlertOC drill on April 7 will replicate a large scale, region wide emergency requiring thousands of residents and businesses throughout Orange County to be called simultaneously. The phone message will clearly indicate that the message residents are receiving is a test, and it will provide information on how to register additional contact methods, such as cell phone, text message and email. The regional test message will be delivered in conjunction with a reminder that California is still in a serious drought and all residents need to use water wisely.

Emergencies can happen at any time. The County, cities, and local water utilities in Orange County can use the AlertOC system to notify residents and businesses of critical life and health safety information when a disaster occurs.
