One Vehicle Crash Seriously Injures Driver
Chesterton-Yesterday at approximately 7:45 p.m. CDT, a one vehicle crash on I-94 EB near the 22 MM/exit ramp (this is the US 20 exit), sent the driver to the hospital with life threatening injuries.
Preliminary investigation by Trooper Ryan Hovarter has revealed that a gray 2012 Toyota Camry driven by Benjamin R. Worden, 32 of Chesterton was traveling EB on the interstate when he allegedly tried to exit off at the 22 mm exit at a high rate of speed. The vehicle left the roadway, striking a large steel light pole. Worden was transported to Northlake Methodist Hospital in Gary and then airlifted to Loyola University Hospital with severe head trauma.
It is unknown at this time if alcohol or drugs were a contributing factor in the cause of the crash. Assisting at the scene were the Porter County Sheriff’s Department, Porter Police Department, Burn Harbor Police Department, INDOT, and Precision Towing. Family has been notified.
