Two teens charged with opening fire on passing motorist with airsoft pellet guns
Two teenagers face charges following a drive-by shooting with airsoft pellet guns Wednesday morning.
Detective J.T. Grindstaff of the McDowell County Sheriff’s Office charged Dylan Todd Grindstaff, 17, of Reservoir Drive in Old Fort, and Michael Dean Wall, 17, of Edgewood Drive in Marion, with one count each of misdemeanor assault and misdemeanor possession of a weapon on school property.
At 10:10 a.m., Brent Rumfelt, of Marion, reported that he was driving a 2003 Chevrolet SUV on Hankins Road near the intersection of Deerfield Lake Road, when two oncoming trucks slowed down and began firing rounds at his vehicle.
Rumfelt was hit near his left underarm by one of the pellets and received only a minor injury.
McDowell County sheriff’s deputies, Marion police officers and N.C. Highway Patrol troopers began searching for the suspect pickup trucks and located them a short time later on the grounds of West McDowell Middle School.
Grindstaff and Wall were taken into custody at the scene. Two other teens were detained for further questioning and later released.They do not face charges.
